Samburu is a rugged, semi-arid wilderness that offers a unique safari experience away from the crowds. The park is home to the “Samburu Special Five” — rare species found only in this region: the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and beisa oryx. The Ewaso Nyiro River, lifeline of the park, attracts elephants, lions, and crocodiles, creating dramatic wildlife encounters. Beyond the safari, Samburu is also about cultural connection — meeting the Samburu people, closely related to the Maasai, whose traditions and colorful attire are as captivating as the landscape itself.
Best Time to Visit: June to October and December to March (dry seasons with good wildlife viewing).
Top Experiences: Spotting the Samburu Special Five, cultural visits to Samburu villages, and sundowners along the Ewaso Nyiro River
